Halla,

Powder day in the Rockies...sort of.
C1's and FIS at Nakiska today w. 25cm's of fresh...awesome snow!
C2's at Norquay today w. a dusting of new snow and perfect training conditions...bizarre how the weather patterns seem to be changing in this part of the world. Nakiska has been a total snowbank over the last month (we've had 5x 25cm's + powder days) - Nakiska would generally not have this many snow days over the course of the season. With an average annual snowfall of <7 feet, Nakiska is known for its stable weather patterns and consistently hard snow conditions...certainly not the case this season. Not that we're complaining...great to get some powder turns in today. A longer than anticipated trip to Nakiska this morning with 3x semi trailers having been blown over shortly after 5am...a bit of a detour needed, fortunately there is more than one way to get to Nakiska. Daily low down C1's - plan A day 1 of 4 day GS progression - had to settle for plan B powder skills (not such a bad plan B) - baskets ahead of the boots for improved position & timing of the pole touch + mobile feet (moving the feet in the front / back & lateral planes to maintain balance) - really good productivity - pillar strength (bugs, kneeling superman, get ups, glute bridge, swiss ball balance) followed by ESD spin & flexibility C2's - 'game day' at Norquay - session 1 SL time trials on Rob's Run (the race piste), full length track from the newly built men's race start w. split timing / session 2 GS time trials on Rob's Run - 6x runs from the top running the full length of the pitch (pretty steep pitch - very good for the gang to have experience on the hill before the 3 day series begins on Friday) - Brett and Trent report a very productive day - competitive spirit was high, the crew is pushing - timing is particularly tight amongst the boys w. 3 in the same second, and another 2 not far behind. Movement based regeneration session w/ Trent on the physical front. We can't wait for the races on Friday...the dudes are skiing fast! FIS - as w. the C1's, the FIS groups had to 'settle' for a powder day...ripped up the upper mountain for the morning and then back to the base for a strength session followed by recovery (spin / contrast showers / flexibility) Check out the pics below of Norquay & surrounds - Brett had his camera out today (despite shooting Canon, he tends to get some pretty decent stuff), these pics were not available at press time - digging into the archives from November & December for the pics below...)
